The Hunger Games is the hottest teen book series right now, and I, Judge Jules, think that it's going to be bigger than Twilight.
What! Bigger than Twilight!? I can just hear the outrage. The books aren't even that similar! Surely there's room for both of them. And believe me, I do love both series. But one has to come out on top.
And while we're still waiting for Twilight: Breaking Dawn to hit the cinemas, The Hunger Games have really filled the void that Twilight has left. With no new Twilight books coming, I had to get into something new. And now I am totally obsessed with The Hunger Games, and you should be too.

Twilight vs Hunger Games -- The Plot
You have to be living under a rock to not know the story of Twilight. Bella Swan moves to Forks and falls in love with vampire Edward Cullen. It's an epic romance, and we loved every second of it. Can a human be with a vampire? Can Edward control himself around a delicious human? Then later on there's a love triangle involving werewolf Jacob, but basically both boys would die for her and love her unconditionally.
The Hunger Games is a completely different concept. Katniss Everdeen lives in a post apocalyptic world, where a wealthy Capitol controls twelve poor districts. She lives in District 12, the very poorest. Each year the Capitol chooses a boy and a girl from each district to compete in The Hunger Games, a reality show where the kids are forced to fight to the death. Katniss goes to the Games in her sister's place, along with Peeta, a boy from her district.
Winner -- The books are so different that it's hard to compare the plots. But I'm picking The Hunger Games. The story is incredible. The human in love with a vamp has been around since Buffy, and while a reality show where you kill each other isn't a completely new concept, teaming it with a dystopian society is really pretty awesome.
Katniss Everdeen vs Bella Swan
Bella Swan and Katniss Everdeen are both pale girls with dark hair. But that's about all they have in common. Katniss is a fighter, and will do anything to survive. Bella is a little bit more restrained, and lets the boys do the fighting for her. Katniss is motivated by the need to protect her family, while Bella is motivated by her love for Edward.
Winner -- Katniss Everdeen. She will do anything to protect her family.
The Action Sequences
For a movie about vampires, there is actually very little action in Twilight. Sure there are a few battles along the way, but nothing massive. And Bella usually stays out of them. The movies definitely added a bit more action and excitement, but there's definitely a lot of waiting around and longing looks before anything crazy happens.
The Hunger Games are all about action. The books are just filled with fight scenes and deaths, since Katniss needs to stay alive and kill other people to win the Games. Don't worry; it's not all fighting though. There are a lot of touching moments, but there's always the fear that someone else might kill you. Definitely looking forward to seeing the Games come to life in the movie!
Winner - The Hunger Games
The Love Triangle
The Twilight love triangle is one of the best we can think of. Both Edward and Jacob would do anything for Bella, and she's torn between them. Although Edward is the one she openly loves, she's always tempted by Jacob. And the fans are torn between them as well! Are you Team Jacob or Team Edward?
The Hunger Games has a pretty good love triangle. Katniss goes to the Games with Peeta, and to win the affection of the audience they present themselves as a couple. But is there something more behind their on screen affection? And does Katniss really love Gale, her friend back home? PS I am Team Peeta, but there are plenty of Gale lovers out there. Movie prediction -- they will totally increase the love triangle to become the focus of the story.
Winner -- Twilight. Nothing beats Jacob vs Edward.
