Gala: In this new chapter of Twilight, your character, Bella, sinks into a terrible depression because she can no longer see Edward, the vampire she is obsessed with. How did you prepare in order to play this sad/difficult individual?

K.S: I didn’t follow any method. I didn’t think about the most painful moments of my life either. What Bella feels goes beyond comprehension. The most difficult for me was when we were filming in the water. I almost drown a couple of times, because I hate water above all. The other actors can account for this.

Gala: Actually, what would you say about your friendship with Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner outside of filming?

K.S.: They are two people that I greatly admire. I count them amongst my best friends today. In addition to being very good actors, they really are good guys.

Gala: It is said that your friendship with Pattinson turned into a love story…

K.S.: My private life only concerns me. I never read what newspapers write about me. Anyway, it is never true. I try to simply do my work to the best of ability.

Gala: What do you think of the sex-symbol title that was given to Robert?

K.S.: It most likely came due to his haircut! (She smiles.) You know, it is difficult not to fall in love with his character. And then, in real life, he is a cool guy. I am not surprised that girls constantly want to run after him in the streets.

Gala: How do you explain the success of the Twilight series?

K.S: Vampirism is something intriguing. Especially for girls. It is a metaphor for abandonment. All girls love to feel protected, even controlled by someone else.

Gala: Do you feel like you are handling your fame better with time?

K.S.: Yes, I think so. Before, I worried about what people thought about me. I was always thinking twice before opening my mouth. I wasn’t really expressing myself. Now, I could care less about the opinion of others and I feel a lot better in my own skin.

Gala: To the point where you will do your own stunts in front of the cameras?

K.S.: No! It is rather very embarrassing, because, even with a stunt double, I keep hurting myself. I twisted my ankle twice already. For some time, I had to stop wearing shoes with heels. It is because of this reason that I wore Converse for the MTV Movie Awards. Everyone was mocking me, when it was not even a fashion statement.

Gala: Bella is an extreme character, due to her obsession. In real life, are you obsessed by something?

K.S.: Aside from movies and filming, not really. I don’t like to lose my composure.
