"Hey!
My friends and I were recently in Louisiana and ended up creating our own Welcome to the Riley's tour of the city! Since the Twilight cast wasn't filming in Baton Rouge when we were there (bummer!), we wanted to figure out a fun way to explore New Orleans (which is about 1.5 hours away from BR). I'm sure a lot of people will be traveling to BR in the next few weeks/months to try to catch the cast out and about, but I thought I'd share our fun little adventure in hopes of inspiring other fans of Kristen & WTTR to visit NOLA and create a tour of their own!
Since we had already seen the movie in NYC (and then again in NOLA!), we had a good idea of the places we wanted to find...
First up was Mena's Palace located on Chartres St. in the French Quarter. This was where Doug bumped into Mallory after meeting her at the strip club. Mallory orders a po'boy (which we did as well!) at the bar (where we sat near!) and chats with Doug while she's waiting for her order.
Almost directly across the street from Mena's (on Iberville St.) is Dixie Diva's, where Doug meets Mallory for the first time. Kristen drew inspiration for her character by talking to some of the women who work at Dixie Diva's.
We also strolled Chartres St., which is the street that Mallory and Doug walked down after leaving Mena's. On this street, while eating her po'boy, Mallory asked for her $100 back from Doug.
The Omni Hotel isn't too far away on St. Louis St. This is where Doug was supposed to be staying, when really he was at Mallory's. In the movie, Doug's co-worker calls from the lobby of the hotel to find out where Doug is. We rested our feet in the lobby for a few minutes before heading out to explore more of the city.
We really wanted to find Vaughan's, which was where Lois & Mallory had their heart-to-heart. This is the same place where Doug asks Mallory if he could stay with her. It was dark out when we found the small corner restaurant, located several miles away from the French Quarter on Dauphine Street. We didn't have time to get out of the car, so we kindly asked the guys drinking beers in front of the restaurant's sign if they'd scoot over while we took our pictures. We explained that this place was in a movie, though none of the guys had seen it (or heard of it, I'm sure) - they were nice and obliged, and we got our pictures!
Last was Mallory's house, which took us a while to find. It's not too far from Vaughan's, but it was difficult to locate in the dark; especially since we didn't have the address. We found the house basically by looking for landmarks from the movie. Once we saw the house, it was like striking gold! It was the last stop on our trip before heading back to the hotel and flying out in the morning, and it was definitely worth it! The street was a little creepy at night, so we stayed in the car. But it was so easy to see the little mailbox that Mallory kept her house key in, as well as the gold paper that was still on the window of the door and the graffiti on the front of the house. This particular house looked abandoned, however there were plenty of people living on the street, so we only stayed a few minutes.
So, those were our stops on our WTTR tour! We would have loved to have found the laundromat that Doug &; Mallory sat outside of, but I guess that's something that we can save for the next trip."
