'Twilight' making an impact on this year's Halloween costumes

Another industry has been taking note of the Twilight series fandom, it seems.According to a recent press release,
Twilight has become the biggest fan phenomenon to hit North America since Lord of the Rings, and people are excited about dressing up as their favorite Twilight character this Halloween. Contact lenses in special designs, and colors help take a costume to the next level and are used frequently by Hollywood blockbusters such as X-Men, Star Wars, Harry Potter and Twilight.

"Twilight is a popular request this year. Everyone wants to be Edward or some type of Vampire and the key costume piece for a vampire is the eyes. People are really having fun with it- blood red eyes, vampire dark purple, or Edward's amber colored eyes. When you put a pair of these SFX contact lenses in, it really changes the way you look." added Harvey.

As the vampire theme heats up this year, setting your self apart from the crowd has become easier with Coastal Contacts new Twilight inspired lens, hitting stores just last week. Most of their Special Effects contact lenses are available in prescription powers, for people who need vision correction, and all lenses from Coastal Contacts are FDA approved. The contact lens industry isn't the only one preparing for a spike in Twilight-related costuming this Halloween.
According to at least two sources (here and here), local costume retailers are looking forward to an increase in vampire costume sales coming off of the success of Twilight and True Blood. Make-up artists are even lending their advice to consumers for how to best approach the pale vampire look and which products to use.
One website even took the time to outline the best way to become Bella and Edward for Halloween (though, to be honest, their inclusion of "fake fangs" in the to-become-Edward list negates some of the more agreeable suggestions like using body glitter to become sparkly).
Finally, Hot Topic has streamlined the pieces of clothing necessary to put together Edward and Alice costumes

  1. If you check Google trends for various vampire searches before 2008 and after it's obvious the effect that Twilight had on the market. Makes for interesting reading.
